A major problem that home owners complain about is the inability to control the amount of light which comes in their house however a great solution is vertical blinds. Sunlight is beautiful and pleasant in moderation can destroy the usefulness of room and make simple things, like watching television or working on the computer, impossible. Morning light can be most disturbing of all even with the covers pulled over your head.

Mini blinds are a common solution to this  however they only have the ability to dim the light entering a room but not completely block it out. Especially in a baby's room where the need to control the sunlight is extremely important. Vertical blinds are a great alternative in high sunlight areas in any room in the house. There are several types of vertical blinds which may be useful in your home décor.

Blackout Blind – This type of vertical blind blocks out almost all light from entering a room. For the most part this time of vertical blind comes on a roller blind which is made from a heavy material and has a mechanical roller. Their sole purpose is to eliminate as much light as possible. Usually these vertical blinds are mounted from the top of the window frame. They are also fitted into tracks on each side of the window inside of the frame. This helps hold the vertical blinds as close to the window as possible. Doing this blocks out the majority of the light seeping in from the edge of window behind the blinds. Vertical blinds, obviously, have a different structure then normal mini blinds which is why they are useful in block out the sun. 

Another point of consideration is the type of material the vertical blinds are made out of.  Each manufacturer has their opinions as well as your family and friends.  There are three popular materials that vertical blinds are usually made out of. These include aluminum, fiberglass, and acrylic. While these are the most popular they are not the only options available. Try a home improvement store for low cost alternatives or a higher end home décor place. Most places offer fabric coverings for all vertical blinds.  This way you can pick the exact fabric, color, and pattern to fit your style. 

For rooms that you want some light in but just can not stand the heat of the afternoon sun you may want to consider using dim-out vertical blinds. These allows a certain amount of light in without the sun's heat, letting the room being illuminated by the sun but not overpowered. Vertical blinds are a great alternative to mini blinds, traditional window shades, roman shades and curtain.
