Faux Wood Blinds Installation

Faux wood blinds are quickly finding themselves at the top of the must have list for your home’s interior design plan. Much like their predecessor, the vinyl mini blind, faux wooden blinds combine the look and style of wood blinds without having to shell out cash for the extreme cost of the real McCoy. If you have a negative reaction to all things faux, you may think again when it comes to faux wooden blinds. In fact, these cheaper look-alikes will have you doing a double take to make sure that they are not made out of wood. Once you have made the choice to include faux wood blinds into the design plan of your home, you will be happy to know that the installation process is a breeze.

There are two different ways to install faux wood blinds depending on the specific types of windows in your home. The first way to install faux wooden blinds is flush with the window if your windows have no trim or molding around their perimeter. Keep in mind that a faux wooden blind is usually two inches in width, so the entire blind will protrude into your room in a greater sense than other, thinner types of blinds (especially vinyl mini blinds). However, if you still want the look of faux wood blinds, but your windows are mounted flush with the wall, then your only alternative is to install the blind directly to the wall.

The second way of installing faux wood blinds is to mount the brackets on the inside of the window at the top of the sash. Keep in mind that this method of installation can only be practiced if you have windows that are not flush with the exterior wall of your home. This look will allow your blinds to be flush with the walls and not protrude. Typically, wider blinds such as the faux wooden blinds look better in this type of set-up, since vinyl mini blinds are quite narrow and may look odd to the scale of the room. You will need the same tools to install faux wooden blinds in either instance, but the process is equally simple.

All faux wood blinds come with an installation kit that includes the brackets and screws necessary for supporting the blinds. For this process, you will need a screwdriver and drill bit to pre-drill the holes. Consider using an electric screwdriver to ensure the process goes by a great deal easier than with a manual tool. Typically, the same bracket will be used regardless on the orientation of the blind, but you may need to install the bracket in a different manner depending on whether you will install your faux wood blinds on the inside or outside of your window.

After you have successfully mounted the brackets and hung your faux wooden blinds, complete the installation process by shortening the blinds to custom fit your window. On the underside of the final blind is a cap that will need to be removed in order to allow you to remove any excess blinds. Keep in mind that you cannot manipulate the width of you faux wooden blinds, only the length.
