Many homes have vertical blinds, often used on sliding glass doors but over time, the material becomes faded or outdated, which is when changing the fabric blinds is a solution to consider. While you could purchase new fabric blinds, you might not be able to find the exact look you want. In this case, changing out the fabric on your own is an excellent solution and fun project that renders beautiful results.
Typically, the price of new fabric blinds will easily cost $200 and up. Obviously, this makes switching the blinds out an expensive update. Because of this, people look for ways to change the appearance without breaking the bank. Again, you could shop for new fabric that you like and actually redo the existing fabric blinds. For this, you would need to measure the size of the blinds and then add several yards of material to accommodate any mistakes. Once you have purchased the material for your fabric blinds, you would cut it into strips the same length and width of the blinds. We recommend you purchase liquid starch, which can be used to stiffen the fabric. The strips would then be laid out to dry. From there, you would simply insert the new strips into the vertical fabric blinds, just as you would with replacement slats. While this project takes a little bit of time and effort, you will save money and have a gorgeous new look. Another option for changing the appearance of your fabric blinds is to add a sheer. In fact, many larger department stores actually sell sheers designed to attach over vertical blinds. These sheers are simply hooked up where the slats are located and instantly, you have a soft, new look. With this option, you would be camouflaging any faded fabric blinds but no one would be the wiser. You could choose a soft white sheer or go with something bold and bright, working with the color in the blinds and the decorum of the room. Two other options for changing the look of your fabric blinds is to use spray paint or dye. With spray paint, you would need to find a place where the individual slats could be placed and then painted. Once dry, you would simply hang them back up with the new look. The other option for fabric blinds is to purchase dye, which can be mixed with water according to the directions and then painted or sponged onto the slats. |
